Peabody Engineering offers both pultruded and molded fiberglass grating.
High quality, well designed, pultruded grating, which resembles metal bar grating, is stronger, lighter, equally corrosion resistant, and in most cases, is less expensive than molded grating. Additionally, pultruded grating comes in larger panels and can be built to custom panel sizes. In most applications, pultruded fiberglass grating will represent the best product and the lowest price.
DURADEK® is our standard grating product. It is available with individual bearing bars in either 1" or 1-1/2" "I" shapes or a 2" "T" shape. DURADEK® is a flame retardant product utilizing a premium grade vinyl ester resin. The bearing bars use both longitudinal (glass roving) and multidirectional (glass mat) reinforcements as well as a synthetic surfacing veil to provide unequaled corrosion resistance.
DURAGRID® custom grid or grating systems are designed to accommodate specific plant applications that cannot effectively be met by a standard fiberglass grating. DURAGRID® offers the customer options such as selection of open space, bar shape, cross-rod placement, custom fabrication, custom resin or color.
DURAGRID® Heavy Duty fiberglass grating is a pultruded bar type grating that can be designed an used like traditional metal grates. The solid individual bearing bars are designed to take heavy wheel traffic such as for lifts, tow motors and truck traffic. Heavy duty grating is constructed of the same type composite used in the other DURAGRID® products.
DURAGRID® Phenolic Grating is a dramatic innovation for markets where fire safety is a major concern; offering superior resistance to flame and high temperature with low smoke and toxic fume emissions. The nonflammable nature of phenolics enable phenolic grating to withstand direct flame contact for extended periods of time without major structural damage. Combined with low thermal conductivity, this provides fire protection not available with alternate materials. DURAGRID® Phenolic Grating is the first composite grating to receive U.S. Coast Guard approval! It is accepted for use in locations and applications as allowed in the U.S.C.G. Policy File Memorandum 2-98 for fire retardant grating meeting structural fire integrity Level 2(L2).
DURAGRATE® molded fiberglass grating has equal strength in both directions and is made with square or rectangular grid patterns. Since it was developed much earlier than pultruded grating, it is widely used and performs well in many applications.
This strong mesh grating panel allows efficient on-site cutting to minimize grating waste, and molded grating is significantly lighter in weight than metallic gratings.
Standard DURAGRATE® grating has a concave profile on the upper surface for skid resistance. Grit tops are available upon request.
Materials of Construction
Molded grating is composed of fiberglass roving combined with a thermosetting resin series, designed for different environments and applications:
- VE-a premium grade vinyl ester, for high chemical resistance
Color: Orange or Dark Gray
- XVE-a premium grade vinyl ester, with extra fire resistance (a flame spread rating of 10 or less)
Color: Dark Gray
- PP-an all-purpose isophthalic polyester for industrial applications
Color: Green or Yellow
- GP-a general purpose orthophthalic polyester for architectural or other applications with less corrosion problems
Color: Yellow
- FF-an economical isophthalic polyester for food processing or similar applications
Color: Light Gray
